Intercultural translation

Being translation an intercultural activity, a translator should not only know two languages, but also two cultures, in order to be able to communicate through his activity the exact sense and meaning of the author's intent: in this way culture can be perceived in its material aspects (objects, artifacts, technology and necessities), but also in its immaterial ones (values, rules, symbols, etc.).

Therefore culture is meant as non generalist, for the countless aspects that make translating an extremely dynamic activity, based on learning, research, in-depth analysis and constant updating.

During a translation something gets lost, but something else is gained in the meanwhile, something that is even more relevant: the loss from the origin language gets compensated by gains in the destination language.

Different worlds and experiences meet thanks to translation, originating a form of contamination which does not determine the loss of one's origin attributes, but rather an insight into each other's world.

Translating extends the borders: they no longer belong to a single party, but rather to all the ones that get closer.
